Lisa Stannard
Lisa has been teaching yoga since age 18 + before starting at Manchester School of Art studying Textile design. She originally started practicing to help manage her anxiety, which it did, but then she started to see + feel all of the other amazing benefits for her body, her mind, her creativity + focus. She was originally self taught from books + buying old school DVD’s! That’s how long ago it was! After graduating she travelled a lot with her freelance design career to London, New York + LA so she got to practice yoga at many amazing studios, her favourite was Strala Yoga in New York. She has strength trained from a pretty young age too as both of her brothers are PT’s so it was in the family to train regularly. She always loved attending their weekly group classes + having PT with them. About 8 years ago she decided that she would also love to train people along side her freelance design business, as she loved to inspire + uplift people to make exercise a part of their life. The year after she got a design job for a Nike Training Club event + there met Nike Global Yoga Ambassador Leah Kim, who’s classes + teaching style she fell in love with. She decided to take the plunge + go on her 200hr Yoga Teacher Training which was in Singapore. When she returned she was lucky enough to begin teaching for Lean Training Club as well as many other studios in Manchester. Since then she has continued to teach on a regular basis at many different studios, as well as run my her classes, lead workshops, teach at fashion events + for corporate clients + different schools.
She loves strength training because it makes her feel strong, energized + capable, she loves HIIT training a couple of times a week to get her heart rate high + she’s recently started to love running too. Her yoga practice helps her to move well, connect to herself, helps her to relax + recover from training herself + her clients. She could never choose just one practise or one type of exercise as she truly believes our bodies need a variety of movement, it is up to us to listen to what our body needs. For example if she is going through a stressful time in life or a very busy time, she might choose very short workouts + yoga, so that she can build her resilience to stress + help herself sleep better.
FAVOURITE EXERCISE: Chest to floor burpees into a tuck jump. Or in yoga - it’s downward dog.
